Lucid problems and fixes
Every documented Air and Gravity problem with its fix: an official recall, a software update, Lucid guidance, or a workaround reported by the press. Saudi items come first.
Ask the assistant
Ask about your Lucid as you would ask a knowledgeable friend: a problem, an odd noise, a service center or a part. It answers from this site's pages first, names them, and keeps the conversation going.
Answers are automated and can be wrong. Anything not based on this site's pages is general guidance. For safety issues and serious faults, contact Lucid service directly. Chats are not saved.

Important before tinting the windshield
Tint film installation liquid can run down the base of the windshield into the electronics behind the dashboard. In a reported Lucid Air case (March 2025) the Lucid service center attributed an electrical failure to the tint and estimated about US$7,000 for the repair, outside the warranty.
- Ask the shop to protect the base of the windshield and the dashboard with towels or a waterproof cover, use as little liquid as possible and soak it up as it runs.
- Choose a shop that has tinted Lucids before, and agree in writing who pays for any damage.
- If warnings or screen faults appear after the tint job, contact Lucid service (800 111 1030) and mention the tint.
Evidence: one press report of a single case; the Owner's Manual warns in general that liquids can damage electrical components. We found no Lucid bulletin on tinting and could not confirm a change on 2026 models. If you have a source, write to us. Details and sources

On Air Pure rear-wheel-drive cars the rear subframe wiring harness may be too short, straining the connection and cutting power to the rear drive unit.
Symptoms: Loss of drive power from the rear drive unit.
FixWiring harness replaced free of charge (Lucid SR-24-05-0). In Saudi Arabia, where this was the Air Pure's first recall, owners check the VIN on Recalls.sa and contact Lucid for a free repair.

- Official fixAirpowertrain
The Gen 4 inverter on rear-wheel-drive Air models can suffer internal friction damage, causing a loss of drive power.
Symptoms: Loss of drive power; after the update, a 'Drive System Fault - Schedule Service Immediately' style alert may appear.
FixOTA update continuously monitors for inverter failure; failed inverters replaced free (Lucid SR-26-05-0). OTA 2.10.0 added drive unit service notifications and extended the detection logic to more vehicles. Press reports say Lucid found 55 failures between March 2025 and March 2026, expects the alert to appear at least about 100 miles before power is lost, and fits flagged cars with a newer-design inverter.
- Official fixAirpowertrain
Some cars had delays shifting into Drive or Reverse, and soft-close doors had infrequent functional issues.
Symptoms: Delay engaging D or R; soft-close door not completing.
FixOTA 2.7.0 resolved the shift delay and addressed soft-close door issues.
- Official fixAirpowertrain
Software 2.1.2 through 2.1.26 could fault while adaptive cruise control was active, causing a loss of drive power.
Symptoms: Loss of drive power while using adaptive cruise control.
FixFree OTA software update released October 2023 (Lucid SR-24-02-0).
- Official fixAirpowertrain
A hose clip latching lip can touch the front drive unit boot, causing a clacking/ticking noise while driving.
Symptoms: Clacking or ticking sound from the front drive unit area when moving.
FixCut off the latching lip of the hose clip so it cannot contact the FDU boot; no parts required.
- WorkaroundAir and Gravitypowertrain
A drive-system fault makes the car inoperable with the message 'Vehicle Not Drivable: Do Not Tow. Contact Customer Care.'
Symptoms: Car will not drive; message tells you not to tow it.
FixDo not tow or move the car yourself. Contact Customer Care first to schedule service; in some cases (for example after flooding) a technician must inspect the car before it is moved.
- WorkaroundAir and Gravitypowertrain
At power-up the car shows 'Drive System Diagnostics in Progress: May take up to 30 seconds' after detecting abnormal drive-system behaviour.
Symptoms: Short delay before the car is ready to drive.
FixWait for the health check to finish; no action is needed. If the message keeps appearing, contact Customer Care to schedule service.
- WorkaroundAir and Gravitypowertrain
Limited Power Mode switches on by itself when the drive controller detects a fault, cutting power, speed and performance to protect the powertrain.
Symptoms: Limited Power indicator on the driver display; noticeably reduced acceleration and top speed.
FixDo not panic; the car can still be driven with reduced performance. Move to the slower lane, be ready to stop, pull off when safe and call Roadside Assistance. Do not use the mode for sustained driving.
- WorkaroundAir and Gravitypowertrain
If the car's electrical system is unresponsive, it cannot be shifted out of Park and the electric parking brake cannot be released, which stops a normal tow.
FixConnect a 12 V jump-start battery to the jump-start terminal so the selector can shift to Neutral; otherwise call Lucid service or Roadside Assistance and transport the car following the manual's transporter instructions.
- WorkaroundAir and Gravitypowertrain
Regenerative braking may be limited when the battery is very hot or cold or already near full charge, so the car slows less when you lift off the accelerator.
Symptoms: Notification on the cockpit display; power gauge shows limited regen; car coasts more than usual.
FixExpect to use the brake pedal more until it returns. Charging above the Daily limit also reduces regen until some charge is used. This is normal behaviour, not a fault.
- UnknownAirpowertrain
An April 2026 review of NHTSA data counted 9 or more Lucid Air complaints alleging sudden unintended acceleration, and 8 or more describing a 'Drive System Fault' with total power loss, sometimes with little warning.
FixDrive-power-loss causes were addressed by several recalls (OTA, service bulletins, hardware). NHTSA had not opened an investigation into the acceleration complaints.

Software 2.0.64 and older may not respond correctly when an inverter power module fails, so drive power can be lost without warning.
Symptoms: Sudden loss of power to the wheels without a prior warning.
FixFree OTA software update; Transport Canada notes no further action is needed on software 2.0.66 or later (Lucid SR-23-04-0).
- Official fixAirpowertrainBeing verified
Some Airs needed rear drive unit replacements. A 2023 Air Touring had its second replacement in three months at about 30,000 miles. A secondary summary of MotorTrend's yearlong Air GT test lists warranty repairs to the rear drive unit, the steering wheel and key-fob connectivity.
FixCovered by the 8-year powertrain warranty. Lucid replaced the drive units.
- UnknownAirpowertrainBeing verified
An April 2026 review of NHTSA complaints counted 8 or more Air reports of 'Drive System Fault' or total power loss at both highway and low speeds, often with little or delayed warning. Some cars needed flatbed recovery and weeks at a service centre.
Symptoms: Sudden loss of drive power, drive-system fault message.
FixPer the article, Lucid has addressed causes through a mix of OTA updates, service bulletins and hardware fixes, including several power-loss recalls. Whether 2026 models are fully resolved is not yet clear. If it happens, follow the manual's fault steps (pull over, contact Customer Care, do not tow if told not to) and make sure all recall updates are installed.
